The actions continues this weekend at Monmouth Park, headed by Authentic who lines up as the morning line favorite in the G1 Haskell.
Hitting the road for the first time in his career, Authentic goes in search of his first G1 win after a good 2nd place finish last out in the G1 Santa Anita Derby for owners Spendthrift Farm, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stables. The three year old son of top sire Into Mischief will have to contend with G1 Belmont Stakes runner-up Dr Post in the 1 1/8 mile event.
The undercard races are laden with talented entries as well, including G2 Mrs Revere winner Nay Lady Nay who runs in the G3 Matchmaker for owners First Row Partners. The full sister to European standout Arizona is a two time stakes winner in six starts and was inserted as the morning line 5-2 second choice.
Vault makes her graded stakes debut for Kueber Racing, Barlar LLC, Madaket Stables and Little Red Feather Racing in the G3 Molly Pitcher. A stakes winner last year at three, Vault has improved in Beyer Speed Figures in each of her three starts this year with trainer Brad Cox and another forward move would put her squarely in contention in this race.
G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint 3rd place finisher Shekky Shebaz makes his first start since March in the Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth on Saturday. The five year old son of Cape Blanco has been given some time off and will be making his first start for trainer Christophe Clement in this spot for owners Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables and Bethlehem Stables.
Though the main act takes place at Monmouth on Saturday, the opening act takes place at Saratoga on Friday where Please Flatter Me will be aiming for stakes success in a tough renewal of the Shine Again for owners Heider Family Stables, Madaket Stables and Doheny Racing. Please Flatter Me was a good 2nd in her four year old debut last out behind multiple G1 winner Guarana and if she can build on that effort, she should be squarely in the hunt to grab this salty event.
The weekend stakes action begins in the De La Rose where Noor Sahara runs for Madaket Stables, Siena Farm, Michael Dubb and Bethlehem Stables after a good 2nd place finish in her US debut alongside Clara Peeters, who runs in the same spot for Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables and Wonder Stables, following up on a nice allowance score over 7 furlongs last out at Belmont Park.
