SMOKIN T, winner of the G3 River City Stakes at Churchill, added a $100,000 HCP win to his resume in his first start since October 2024. Trained by Chad Brown, Smokin T was a BSW/Crow purchase for Mrs. Gay Smith out of the Keeneland November Horses of Racing Age sale this past November, out of the Denali Consignment, just two months ago. He finished ahead of stablemate, Jerry the Nipper by 1 1/4 lengths who is also a BSW/Crow purchase for the same owner. In a Jam was 3rd. SMOKIN T stalked in the 4 path, ranged up in a ride by jockey, Frankie Dettori, while floating out into the 7 path turning into the lane, and stayed on to draw clear in the final sixteenth. JERRY THE NIPPER broke in and bumped an inner foe, prompted the pace in the three path, bid in the two path around the far turn, took command while being coaxed from the three path into the stretch, edged clear passing the eighth pole, but was caught by Smokin T in the final sixteenth. Smokin T is by War Front, out of the Ghostzapper mare, Wine Princess. He was bred by Dattt Farm, LLC in Kentucky.
